Do you suffer from seasickness?

What do you take?

I have done four cruises since October.  I've had a lot of practice experimenting with what preventive sea sickness medicine works for me.

The first time, it was partly my fault due to bad choices. I was on a winter cruise in November in an inside cabin near the back of the ship. It's not the best location or time.  I feel that if I can't get any fresh air, it makes me feel worse. I wasn't going to risk going up on deck, as I probably wouldn't make it. This was a mid-sized ship. I was hoping for calm seas. I took the tablets, but maybe I left it too late. I learnt my lesson that you need to start before the bad weather begins.

On the next cruise, I  was on a large ship, newer,  with better stability. I wasn't sick, but I felt very poorly. It was still winter in December and January, and the seas were rough in parts. I took the tablets every day.

The third cruise was in February around the Canary Islands and Madeira, this time on a mid-sized ship. It was surprisingly rocky; the weather wasn't great. I had a mid-aft cabin with a balcony. On recommendation from someone, I bought some patches from Amazon. I put them behind my ears, changing them every two days, though the recommendation is to change one to three days. It also says if the weather gets really bad and you start to suffer, place an extra pad just above your belly button.

I was sick and spent a day in my cabin.

The next cruise I thought I'd punish myself even further by crossing the Atlantic. The weather was quite good until the North Atlantic, where we experienced waves of seven and a half metres. I had a mid-forward balcony cabin on a large ship with good stability. The Bay of Biscay was fine. I had stickers on, I took tablets and ate green apples and crisps. Other than jelly legs I wasn't too bad, bearable.

I love to cruise, but I need to stick to the summer when, hopefully, there are calmer waters, fly to my preferred destination, and avoid the North Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay.  Maybe a river cruise next.

What do you do to prevent sea sickness? I'd love to know.
