Travelling Solo to Barbados, Arriving at the Barbados Beach Club

After a wonderful flight in business class on British Airways, I took a taxi to the Barbados Beach Club in Christchurch.  You can catch up with my review of the BA flight and service here

Initially, the drive along the road gave the impression of a somewhat run-down area. However, as the taxi turned onto a side street, my perception shifted with the sight of numerous hotels. Stepping out of the taxi, I was immediately struck by the fragrant aroma of flowers and the lingering heat of the day, and I could hear the beat of the waves. Heaven after cold, rainy UK.

I was only staying here for two days before picking up a transatlantic cruise on P&O Arvia. This hotel is only three-star, but it was all-inclusive and on the beach. Being on my own, I didn't intend to go off exploring, but I just wanted to relax and enjoy the wonderful Caribbean Sea.

The staff were very friendly, and the security guard even asked if he could join me for a drink later, which made me smile since it was an all-inclusive resort. Perhaps he just wanted to tag along for a freebie. Regardless, I smiled and politely declined and went up to my room.

Though a bit dated, it featured a large comfortable bed and a good bathroom. It was very clean and had the most wonderful view from the balcony.

I logged into the Wi-Fi, which worked great and noted the meal times. I didn't try the meals until the next day. It was a buffet, and the food was okay. Unfortunately, like many Caribbean restaurants, the dining area was only partially covered, allowing birds to get in. Although wires were strung across the partitions, they could still enter, sneakily waiting for the doors to open.  They weren't bold enough to sit next to you while you had your meal, but they would swoop in immediately if you left anything unattended.

The next day, I took advantage of the extensive selection of drinks at the resort. The cocktails were not only delicious but also quite strong, offering a wide variety of flavours and options to suit different preferences. Certainly, the view was the best of any bar I'd ever sat at.

For the next two days, I happily lazed around the pool and strolled along the glorious beach. The hotel arranged a bus service to the Friday night carnival at Oistins Fish Fry. Although I didn't go, I spoke to a few guests who raved about it, saying it was fantastic and they'd go again, especially for the rum punch. They said the lively music and vibrant entertainment created a wonderful atmosphere but were a bit of an overload to the senses if you didn't like very loud music.

I was perfectly content with the Reggae band that played around the pool every day and in the evenings, adding to the relaxing Caribbean vibe.

Though not luxurious, the hotel was perfectly adequate for a two-day pre-cruise stop. The location was really beautiful.

Coming to Barbados is all about the beach, the sunshine, and the incredibly friendly people. I had an amazing time, feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. Now, I'm excited to join the beautiful P&O Arvia for a transatlantic journey to Southampton, UK.
