Not exactly the sort of cruise I like to go on, but I thought I’d give it a mention as in some ways it’s so similar to going on a cruise. The rooms were great, the food fantastic and entertainment was plentiful and excellent. You are given your room details, key, charge card and entertainment guide as you enter the property, before you park your car.
I paid £175 for three nights, including food and accommodation. I had a discount as I used my Tesco points, as they have a deal with Warners. I have done this before, you can read about it in a previous review of a Warners property, Bembridge.
You get allocated a table for dinner and breakfast. There are some items which are ordered and delivered to your table, others are at the buffet. There is a different joint every evening, beef, pork, ham, and there’s plenty of fish, salads and vegetables, and an extensive sweet menu. You keep that table for the evening entertainment. We were there for the Euro football final. They had a large screen and other TVs in the area. Great atmosphere. That changed, once England lost.
Being solo, with the right amount of research you will find a price for a room that only charges for you. You are in a double room, but only paying for one. Perfect.
The rooms at Lakeside have been recently attractively refurbished. Walk in shower, flat screen TV, big double bed, tea making facilities and a fridge.
The hotel advised that the swimming and spa facilities were out of action for refurbishment. However we had use of the facilities at Sinai Warren, 10 minutes from Lakeside. Unlike Lakeside, Sinai Warren is a hotel, as in the normal sense, with your rooms in the main building. Lakeside has chalets, but they are very attractive and I found it very quiet.
Lakeside is on Hayling island, quite local for me. Ideally placed for a trip over to Portsmouth, to see the Historic Dock Yard or Gunwharf Quay.
It’s a beautiful area, perfect for a morning walk. If you go to the end of the lane and turn left you can walk to the sea front. A pebbled beach, and a few shops and cafes. There’s Hayling railway which will take you further along the coast to the fun park.
Sunday morning there is a band, and quite often it attracts a group of people who line dance.
Saturday, our little group parked at Sinai Warren and walked to the Hayling Ferry. You can park at the ferry car park, or at the Ferryboat Inn if you prefer. We took the ferry for £3.50 pp one way to Portsmouth. You have to get the bus, number 25 to get to Gunwharf Quay which takes 35 minutes.
Once you arrive at Gunwharf Quay, there is so much to do. Boat rides, go up the Spinnaker Tower, High tea in the clouds, Abseil down the tower, not for me. Extensive shops and restaurants.
I spent far too much money at the shops as they are Outlets, so a lot of tempting reductions.
The sun was shining, and we made our way back to the ferry, and back to Lakeside. It was a very pleasant weekend. I will definitely be going again as it’s so close to home, and such a bargain for solo occupancy.
Pretty Lakeside. You can book your trip through the link. Warners
